In Fire Emblem: Fates, Iago is a Sorcerer, a very powerful dark mage who relies heavily on very powerful magic attacks. Iago is easily among the strongest in the class, and he's minmaxed his stats to absurd levels. His physical attack is quite literally 0 and his defense stat is very low. He can take quite a few magical hits and deal a lot of magical damage, but he's physically very frail. This carries over into Terca Lumireis; instead of choosing to try to work on that miserable strength stat and actually learn how to use a weapon, Iago's choosing to double down on what he's already good at.

Iago retains his magical abilities from Nohr, but due to the way magic works in Nohr, he can't access all of those skills anymore. He needs either a tome or a staff to channel his magic through. He can't recreate staves, so he's limited to one: Freeze. Once that breaks, he can't use that spell anymore. Tomes are a little more flexible; he's memorized his so it's simply a matter of taking the time to rewrite them all. Obviously, that's going to take forever, but once he's managed it he can use Excalibur, Fimbulvetr, and Ginnungagap. These spells are adapted to fit into Terca Lumireis; while they come with a much shorter casting time, their accuracy is pitifully low and Ginnungagap comes with the drawback of limiting his own magical power for some time after using it.

Because he's once again minmaxed too damn hard, Iago is entirely incapable of using Strike Artes. He uses tomes as weapons and is entirely incapable of defending himself physically because they're used as conduits for his magic. His minmaxing does have a benefit, though; he's able to learn a very wide variety of spells with enough time and practice and we already know Iago's a huge nerd who will do nothing but that once he's found tomes to study. The list below is a complete list of what he can learn, though it's going to take him quite some time to be able to adapt his magic to this world and pick up new spells. His area of expertise is with dark elemental magic, but wind and water are fairly good fits for him as well. Earth and light-aligned magic are easily his weakest.

Iago is also capable of healing magic! He was back in Nohr as well, he just didn't use it very often. Staves are used for healing, but he primarily used ones he could use to debuff the enemy because he's an asshole. Anyway, he can heal here as well, though his healing capabilities are nowhere near as strong as a dedicated healer's would be. He has several healing spells he can use, and he's capable of even reviving the dead, but dying in combat isn't the same as dying in real life so it doesn't really count. It's probably a good idea to bring gels anyway, just in case.

There are some miscellaneous spells that Iago has access to from Nohr that simply don't translate well to combat. Once again, he has to transcribe all of these tomes by hand, so it will take forever to even attempt them and results are varied. He cannot summon any Faceless or Stoneborn in Terca Lumireis since they don't exist, and he can't use his power to control monsters either since none of them are created by his dark magic. His ability to teleport around as he wishes is also severely nerfed given he doesn't actually know much of Terca Lumireis' layout. Even with a perfectly accurate map, he'd still need to visit a place before being able to visualize it enough for the spell to work. So basically he's the Pokémon HM Fly user. He can still bring others with him through teleporting, but that's something he'll have to practice to get used to in this world. He's still capable of using his illusion powers to communicate over long distances and the spell that allows him to control minds could possibly work, but considering how finicky and difficult it is to get working in Nohr, he isn't going to try it.

Finally, with enough training and effort, he can surpass the limitations of Illusio he hit in Krakow and use that particular brand of illusion power to turn himself invisible, among other things. Eventually he'll be able to expand this to his allies as well, but that's only after a considerable amount of work. He can definitely create illusions of anything he wants fairly easily and without any casting time, so there's that too.

Iago's basically the healer/caster of the party, though he can serve as a pretty good magic sponge if necessary. He has absolutely no way to defend himself if enemies get up in his face while he's casting, so maybe keep your mage safe. Or bring lots of Life Bottles.
