I don't know if I'd say I enjoy it. I always found lessons terribly boring, but practice was something to do with myself when there was nothing else. I dislike being idle.

Never. There was a piano in the castle, but I've never heard anyone play it. I suppose I'm simply curious.

I don't mind, if it interests you so much. I doubt we know much of the same music, however.

Most likely not, but what you're playing is interesting. Is it something you've memorized, or are you making it up as you go?

Something I've memorized. Improvising is more difficult for me, whereas I could probably do this one blindfolded.

I imagine it would be difficult. With memorization it's at least partially remembering the movements.

Curiosity. For all we've talked, I don't know much about your past.

Whatever you'd feel comfortable telling me, really. You've mentioned your sister - what was growing up with her like?

Oh, she was horrible.

She tended to make most of the decisions, but I didn't particularly mind that back then. She was my favorite person and I wanted to be just like her for a while. Our parents were hard on mistakes and let us know early that certain things weren't going to be tolerated, but for the most part they let us do as we pleased as long as we didn't break anything.

I picked up several of my current pastimes when I was younger. Hunting monsters, as well as things like this. I've always been active. Idleness was never tolerated.

[He shrugs a bit.]

I grew up near the castle. There's an area of the capital reserved for nobility; I've lived there for most of my life. Always well-provided for. All of our titles and assets were transferred to me when our parents died; I've held claim to them since.

Your sister is the eldest, correct? Why did you inherit everything?

A certain degree of conduct and decorum is required to keep such things. No public scandals, nothing that would cast you or your family line into disgrace.

Bluntly put, I wouldn't trust her with it either.

Oh, of course she wasn't. But I do provide for her - I'm not completely heartless - and one of our servants keeps an eye on her while I'm away. So it works out well enough.

She isn't interested in serving as a knight, then? I suppose that would be a bit much for the Commandant to handle.

...Honestly, I think that would be a bit much for me to handle, much less the Commandant.

She's never had any interest in such things, though, no. Which is fine - we don't have to work, should we choose not to.
